When to Pause a Grooming Product

A grooming product should never require you to ignore a change in your pet’s comfort. This guide covers observable signs, not diagnoses. If something concerns you, stop using the product and ask your veterinarian what to do next.

Watch for a Change After Use

Notice whether scratching, licking, redness, flaking, sneezing, watery eyes, or avoidance appears or becomes more frequent after a product is introduced. Those observations do not prove a cause, but they are a good reason to pause.

Stop and Keep the Package

Stop using the product, prevent further exposure when practical, and keep the package or label. The product name, lot information, ingredient list, and directions can help a veterinarian evaluate what happened.

Do Not Mask the Sign

Do not add another scented product in an attempt to cover the first reaction. Combining products makes it harder to understand what changed and may add another exposure.
